brain = mind

to say that toddlers lack self-control because their prefrontal cortex is not fully developed is like saying, "my computer is out of storage because the hard-drive is full". it's repetitive. these are just two ways to describe the same phenomenon.

why not say someone lacks self-control because they haven't learned it yet? or because they are incapable of learning it? using brain terminology may sound impressive, but it's not always useful, and often misleading.

in fact, using reductionist terms can be harmful, as in legal cases where brains are blamed for behavior. i didn't do it, my brain did.
